⚠️ Important Compatibility Notices — Please Read Before Purchasing

  • Server-grade card: This is a server network card. When used in desktop computers, compatibility issues may arise. Some motherboards will not recognize the card or may not boot after installation. This is not a defect.
  • ITX motherboards have poor compatibility. ATX / mATX / EATX motherboards have good compatibility.
  • Newer motherboards (e.g. B150, B650, X570) tend to be compatible. Older motherboards (e.g. B75, B85, H61, H81) are often not compatible.
  • 3.3VSB power issue: Some motherboards cannot boot after installation due to insufficient 3.3VSB standby power. Contact seller support for a power modification guide.
  • macOS is NOT supported.
  • Linux installation requires technical expertise. Drivers must be installed manually on Windows 7/8/10/11.
  • Confirmed compatible: J3160, B360, Q370, X570E, H410, X58, X99, C612, Z97, HP Z440, Asus X470, and others.
  • Confirmed incompatible: B75, B85, H67.
  • For GIGABYTE motherboards that do not recognize the card, refer to the installation diagram provided.
  • An additional cooling fan is strongly recommended for home PC / desktop use — the card generates significant heat under load. The card does not ship with a fan.

Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 10 / Windows 11 (driver required)
  • Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, 2022
  • VMware ESXi 6.5 / 6.7 / 7.0
  • RedHat 7.6–7.9, 8.1–8.3 (64-bit)
  • SUSE 12.5 / 15.2 / 15.3 (64-bit)
  • Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 / 20.04 (64-bit)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will the X540-T2 dual port 10G network card work in my desktop PC?

A: It depends on your motherboard. ATX, mATX, and EATX boards with newer chipsets (B150, B650, X570, etc.) generally work well. Older chipsets like B75, B85, H61, and H81 are often incompatible. ITX boards also have poor compatibility due to physical and power limitations. Always verify your motherboard's PCIe slot version and 3.3VSB power output before purchasing.

Q: Does the X540-T2 support 2.5G or 5G speeds?

A: No. The X540-T2 supports 1G and 10G only — it does not support 2.5G or 5G intermediate speeds. To achieve 10G throughput, you will need a CAT6 or higher cable, a 10G-capable switch or router, and a 10G-compatible NAS or server at the other end.

Q: Does the card work with Synology NAS devices?

A: Yes. The X540-T2 is compatible with Synology NAS systems that have a PCIe expansion slot, making it a popular choice for high-speed home lab and SMB NAS builds.

Q: Do I need to install drivers for Windows 10 or Windows 11?

A: Yes, a driver installation is required for all Windows versions (Win 7, 8, 10, and 11). Download the appropriate driver from Intel's official download center by searching for "X540-T2". Windows Server editions (2012–2022) also require driver installation.

Q: The card runs hot — is a cooling fan included?

A: The card includes a passive heatsink but does not include a cooling fan. Under heavy 10G load, the card generates significant heat. If you are installing this in a home PC or desktop, we strongly recommend purchasing an additional cooling fan. Contact the seller for compatible fan options.
